BOARD MEMBER — Volunteer Position

Commitment: 2 hours/month, 1–2 year term 
Compensation: Volunteer (unpaid)
 

What you’ll do:

  • Provide governance and strategic guidance to the Executive Director

  • Support fundraising, partnerships, and community outreach

  • Serve on at least one committee (e.g., Finance, Governance, Fundraising)
     

Ideal experience:

  • Expertise in one or more: finance, legal, fundraising, marketing, HR, nonprofit governance, or community leadership

  • Collaborative, mission-aligned, and available for regular meetings

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR — Paid Position

Reports to: Board of Directors
Location: 167 Pitt Street, Cornwall (occasional off-site, evenings, and weekends required)
 

Overview

The Executive Director (ED) will report to the Diversity Cornwall Board of Directors, and will oversee all of the organization’s efforts, including managing the organization’s budget, applying for funding opportunities, fundraising, and delivering our year-round programs and services. The ED will be responsible for promoting and delivering 2SLGBTQ+ education and advocacy, ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization, and overseeing Diversity Cornwall’s Rainbow Roots mentoring program, Gender Affirming Program, the annual Pride Parade and Festival, and all other events and services.
 

Hours & Location

  • 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm, at our office (167 Pitt Street)

  • Occasional evenings/weekends and off-site events

  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
     

Salary

$45,000–$60,000 per year, based on education and experience.
 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Services, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field (or 2+ years equivalent experience)

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in nonprofit or social services sector

  • Minimum 1 year in financial management (budgeting, fundraising, bookkeeping, reporting)

  • Experience in fund development (grants, sponsorships, partnerships) an asset

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Independence and ability to self-manage effectively

  • Strong public speaking, writing, and digital communication skills

  • Bilingualism (English required, French an asset)

  • Leadership and relationship management skills

  • Technical proficiency (Microsoft Suite, Google Docs/Forms, Zoom, Canva)

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression
     

Key Responsibilities


Leadership and Governance

  • Serve as spokesperson for Diversity Cornwall

  • Implement strategic direction from the Board

  • Guide Board on policies, governance, and strategy

  • Ensure compliance with by-laws and policies

  • Prepare reports on activities, finances, and impact

 

Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations

  • Implement policies and best practices

  • Supervise and mentor volunteers

  • Deliver inclusivity training as needed

  • Manage competing priorities under tight timelines

 

Financial Management

  • Ensure programs operate within budget

  • Secure funding through grants, sponsorships, partnerships

  • Monitor and report on financial performance

 

Community Engagement and Advocacy

  • Build and maintain community and funder relationships

  • Advocate for policies aligned with our mission

  • Lead PR, communications, and outreach

  • Represent Diversity Cornwall at meetings and events

 

Program & Initiative Management

  • Oversee all programs and services

  • Identify community needs and propose new programs

  • Evaluate and report on program impact

  • Foster partnerships to enhance service delivery
